The Picasso 1906 catalogue. The great transformation accompanies the exhibition of the same name held at the Reina SofÃa Museum to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso. The publication reviews the artist's production in 1906, a key year in the painter's career that, examined from a contemporary aesthetic consciousness, can be considered a "period" with its own entity in Picasso's creative development. In 1906, Picasso's first contribution to the definition of modern art was made. It is the year of the "great turn", in which the artist takes figurative representation to new terrain, redefines the framework between background and figure, allows himself to be immersed in cultural references considered until then as "primitive" - ??Iberian art, the so-called art nègre, the Catalan Romanesque, protohistoric Mediterranean art or ancient Egyptian, among others—, incorporating new approaches to the question of gender and redrawing its relationship with the history of art.
