El FCE publicó en 1985 esta antología de la obra de Juan José Arreola, preparada por él mismo, en la Biblioteca Joven. En su "Presentación..." escribió: "Ahora surge de pronto la oportunidad de este libro. Y la aprovecho inmediatamente para ofrecer a sus lectores lo que escribí en mis horas juveniles, cronológicas y espirituales. Viejo a más no poder como representante de una literatura a punto de extinguirse, me anima el afán de renovarme en jóvenes nostálgicos de una vida más bella: cosa que no ha sido, pero que puede ser y que será. Y como Andrea Huerta saluda abriéndome la puerta hacia los lectores de esta Biblioteca, le digo simplemente: aquí están estas páginas mías que desde ahora son tuyas".
