There’s a green heart to Morocco, pulsing with the fragrance of cedar and fallen oak leaves. A heart brightened by brash paint strokes of wildflowers in spring and livened with birdsong in summer. It beats to the rhythms of Nature, waiting patiently to draw you away from the clichés of Marrakech and Toubkal with its serene temptations. That heart is the Middle Atlas countryside of Ifrane National Park. The Middle Atlas cedar forest of Ifrane is not only the largest cedar forest in North Africa, but also home to the endangered Barbary macaque, red foxes and wild boar. In addition, I have identified over 100 bird species. The purpose of this book is to share with you this unique part of God’s beautiful creation. I have provided two ways for you to enjoy my forest in the Middle Atlas—through the images my descriptions produce in your mind’s eye and through more than 170 beautiful color photographs taken there. I hope you will enjoy your visit to my forest in the Middle Atlas.
